AMD has officially unveiled its next-generation Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series CPUs at Computex, and they’re nothing short of monstrous. Aimed at professionals, creators, and extreme enthusiasts, the new 9000 and 9000 WX-Series are powered by AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, pushing boundaries in high-performance computing.
Meet the Beast: Threadripper Pro 9995WX
At the top of the lineup is the Threadripper Pro 9995WX — a workstation powerhouse packing a staggering 96 cores and 192 threads. Built for the most demanding workloads like VFX, complex simulations, and AI model development, this chip is a serious contender for the performance crown.
It also includes up to 384MB of L3 cache and 128 PCIe Gen 5 lanes, offering more than enough bandwidth to support multiple GPUs and high-speed storage. AMD claims the 9995WX is 2.2x faster than Intel’s flagship 60-core Xeon W9-3595X in Cinebench 2024 multi-threaded performance.
Power for Creators Too
Not everyone needs 96 cores, though. For high-end creators and enthusiasts, AMD has also introduced the Ryzen Threadripper 9980X, delivering 64 cores and 128 threads, with a base clock of 3.2GHz and a hefty 320MB L3 cache. Like the rest of the lineup, it features a 350W TDP and is compatible with existing sTR5 socket motherboards (following a BIOS update).
Coming Soon
Both the Threadripper 9000 Series and the Pro WX-Series will be available starting in July, although AMD has not yet revealed pricing. However, given that the previous-gen Threadripper 7980X was priced at $4,999, you can expect these next-gen chips to sit in a similar premium bracket.
Whether you’re building the ultimate workstation or chasing extreme multithreaded performance, AMD’s new Threadripper lineup looks ready to deliver — and then some.
